3 vital steps to stop hating myself.

Life in the UK has been different (to say the least) over the last year. wow an entire year. but as the UK begins to see a light at the end of the tunnel it’s hard to not think back to when this started and why I wanted to start a journey to better myself.

When everyone’s world was turned upside down it had a huge effect on my (along with most other peoples’) mental health. as someone who suffers from anxiety and depression it was hard not to get stuck in a mental health spiral that was almost impossible to get out of.

Realisation

They say, “the first step to recovery is acceptance”, and I live by this. You can’t change if you can’t accept there is anything wrong. But what made me realise? Well, I’ll be honest after almost a year of hating myself in every way from the way I look to the way I dress to the way I act. I saw a post about toxic relationships on my TikTok account and realised I was in a toxic relationship with myself.

From constantly putting myself down to not letting myself have friends I began to see the toxic in myself that I wouldn’t accept if I saw it in someone else. But how do you break up with yourself? How do you end that toxicity that you have lived in for so long?

Set Goals

After extensive research and finding the best ways to start my journey both mentally and physically I figured that the best place to start is by setting clear achievable (or SMART if you will) goals that work for me. So here are mine:

§ Learn to forgive myself

§ Accept that I am not in control of everything.

§ Drink more water

§ Find something active that I enjoy

§ Stop comparing myself to others

§ Put time aside for me

§ Learn to understand myself

§ Learn from failure don’t let it defeat me

§ Implement good habits

§ Avoid negative energy

§ LOVE MYSELF

So, these goals seem like mountains that will be impossible especially from where I am starting. So, the larger goals aren’t my concern for my everyday life. I could sit here and tell you that it’ll be easy I’ll just start forgiving myself and stop comparing myself to others but that would be a lie. Every day is going to be hard and everyday will be one step closer.

Implement your change

I know its cliché (but sometimes they are cliche for a reason), but I’ll be taking my journey one step at a time starting with daily affirmations, working out in the mornings and just trying to be kind when I talk about myself! Are you on a journey? Do you want to start one? Well, if you are, just know that it’ll be hard and there will be setbacks but, in the end, seeing the difference between who you are now and who you will become, will be the best feeling and I can’t wait to see that moment. What are you working toward?
