Small changes that make a big impact.

Hi lovely people, it’s been a little while since I’ve done a blog post as with everything I’m keeping honest, school has been overwhelming and I’ve been feeling like I was drowning in work. But its over! I have completed my first year of university and during a pandemic with almost no face-to-face teaching, I am still waiting on my results, but I am so proud of myself for even getting through it.
Even with all of my work I have still been working on myself and my positivity journey. So I think it so easy to say we need to be more positive but putting it in practice is a completely different story especially if like me you suffer with a condition such as depression or anxiety.
So even when my depression is acting up or I’m riddled with anxiety I can make small changes that help me to feel more positive.
What changes help me.
One of the post important changes that allow me to be positive is that I have started to make dietary changes. Even small changes such as I have started to meal prep or using healthier alternative in my coffees, drinks or sauces. These changes as much as making my body feel better and less sluggish, they also help my mentally as feel like a am making changes helps my brain to feel better about my body.
Another change that I have made is starting to exercise, whether this is taking a nice long walk to the shops (getting a shopping trip as a reward always makes the walk quicker) or going to the gym (I am trying out the 12/3/30) before going to the gym I feel a sense of dread but I usually plan to do something while I am on the treadmill such as organising my home screen or planning my content, this takes my mind off of actually working out.
I also like to make a to do list at the beginning of each day, the feeling of crossing of things that I have done helps me to visualise the progress that I have made throughout the day. I know that it is psychological but hey we are all a mess of psychology.
Finally, I surround myself that make me feel like myself. This started with small changes such as my water bottle. It went from a chillies bottle that was something that everyone had because they are ‘cool’ to my hydracy bottle that is pink and makes me feel like I am projecting who I am on the inside to the outside world. I then started to change the clothe that I was wearing from what I though others would think I looked good into what I though looked like me. I started wearing colours that made me happy and projecting the happy person that I am. Now almost everything that I buy is baby pink, yellow, baby blue or sage green and as much as I feel sorry for my partner, I feel so good about the things that I surround myself with.
How this has made an impact on my life.
These changes are so small and some of them won’t even be noticeable to most people until one day you go out and people start to realise how far you’ve come. This happened to me recently I went out with some of my friends and one of them said that Im a different person. Some people may think of this as a bad thing, but my goal is to change. I want to be different and the fact that someone could see that really made me smile. It means that the work that I am putting in and the small changes are making a big difference.
So here is your weekly check-in:
How are you feeling?
How is your personal journey going?
What small changes have you made this week?
What changes do you want to make?
What is your goal for this week?
What impact has your journey made on your life?
What has the biggest impact on your mental health?
Have you taken time for your this week?
So just remember that healing take stime and asking for help is a courageous step.
I hope that you are doing great! And I hope that you know how loved you are.
